Graduate Student, Spanish
My name is Enrique A. Martinez and I’m currently pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Foreign Languages and Cultures with an emphasis in Spanish Literature. On June 2013 I graduated from Spokane Falls Community College with an AA Degree and transferred to Eastern Washington University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish and a minor in Psychology on March 2016.
I’ am originally from Salinas, CA but lived in Mexico for 4 years and grew up in Spokane, WA. I’m a first generation student to graduate from a 4-year institution here in the United States as well as the first one to pursue a Master’s Degree. My long term goal is to obtain a Doctorate in Spanish Literature, become a Professor and teach upper level Spanish courses. My passion for teaching started in High School where I would help my fellow classmates with their Spanish homework but it wasn’t until I was at SFCC that I made the decision to follow my dream. While attending the community college, I had the privilege of being a Teacher’s Assistant for the Spanish Department for a quarter. Furthermore, I’ve worked as an AVID tutor for Spokane Public Schools at Sacajawea Middle School where I facilitated groups of 4-6 students in different subjects.
Some of my biggest interests are traveling and have had the opportunity of doing study abroad in Salamanca, Spain. I also love the outdoor, specially hiking, cliff jumping and snowboarding. The thing that I’m looking forward to the most is starting my research and I feel very privileged to do it here at WSU.
