Yubi Lojewski

Comparative ethnic studies (CES) major Yubi Lojewski received a Community, Equity, and Social Justice Award for WSU Students during the University’s 2021 Martin Luther King Program. John Streamas, associate professor of CES, has taught Yubi in class and nominated her to receive the Inclusive Excellence Award.

“She is a very independent thinker and yet a compassionate thinker—community minded,” Streamas said. “She writes elegantly and clearly … and she thinks powerfully.”

A first-generation college student, Yubi has worked as a social justice peer educator on campus and advocated for marginalized people in the community. She is a member of the Cabinet of the Black Student Union and an ambassador for the College of Arts and Sciences.

Yubi talks about her commitment to advancing social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in a video about the MLK awards, beginning around the 3:50 mark.
