About the Award
The holder the Marianna Merritt Matteson and Donald S. Matteson Distinguished Professorship in Foreign Languages is expected to foster the understanding of foreign cultures through the teaching of literature, linguistics or foreign language pedagogy, and to engage in scholarly activities which benefit not only the faculty and department but the academic community as well. The holder is also expected to provide, in collaboration with others, leadership for maintenance of a strong program of scholarly work as well as teaching and outreach programs to prepare students to enter the global society confidently and capably.
